# Translations

## Introduction

Joinchat **is translated into 13 languages** (English, Dutch, Swedish, Persian, Portuguese, Galician, Korean, Russian and Spanish from various countries) and you can view the status of other translations or help with their development from within [Translating WordPress](https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/creame-whatsapp-me/).

For the settings translation, Joinchat **is compatible with WPML, Polylang and TranslatePress** allowing you to translate the texts you configure in the general settings into each language.

Strings are registered for translation when you save your Joinchat settings. On a site with Joinchat configured before adding multilingual support, you'll need to save your Joinchat settings again after configuring the multilingual plugin.

By default, the **text fields** and the **phone number** are translatable but with the filter `'joinchat_settings_i18n'` you can include other fields to be translated. For example, if we want different theme colors for each language:

```
add_filter( 'joinchat_settings_i18n', function( $fields ){
 $fields['color'] = 'Theme Color';
 return $fields;
} );Code language: PHP (php)
```

When one of these multi-language plugins is detected, a notification is displayed with a link to edit the translations in the Joinchat settings.

## WPML

First, you'll **need to have the "WPML Multilingual CMS" and "WPML String Translation" plugins installed** and configured. You can follow their [Getting Started Guide](https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/). You'll also need to configure the Joinchat options: phone number and texts. Once that's done, follow these steps to translate Joinchat settings into each language:

### WPML 4.7

The recommended way to manage translations is from the **"Translation Dashboard"**.

1. Go to **WPML / Translation Management**, under the **"Translation Dashboard"** tab.
2. Scroll down to the **"Other texts (Strings)"** section and filter by the "docs.joinchat.test/wp/" domain.

![wpml 4 7 joinchat](https://docs.join.chat/app/uploads/2020/05/wpml-4-7-joinchat-1024x723.png)3. Select the strings you want to translate.
4. Continue to **"Step 2"** to define how you will translate (automatic, manual, assign to a translator, etc.)

## TranslatePress

First, **you need to have TranslatePress installed** and configured; see the [installation documentation](https://translatepress.com/docs/installation/). Then follow these steps to configure Joinchat in each language:

1. From **Settings / Joinchat**, configure the general settings in the site's main language.
2. Edit translations from TranslatePress's [Translation Editor](https://translatepress.com/docs/translation-editor/):
    1. From the top bar, click **Translate Site** and then **String Translation** / **Regular**
    2. Or you can go directly from the **Manage translations** link in the Joinchat settings:

![translapress](https://docs.join.chat/app/uploads/2026/07/translapress.png)3. In the Translation Editor, you can filter by "jc" to easily view Joinchat strings. For every string click **edit**, enter the translation and click **Save** to store the changes.

    **NOTE:** If the **Regular** tab is not shown, you need to enable it (see [String Translation](https://translatepress.com/docs/translation-editor/string-translation/#regular)).

    **NOTE:** Joinchat strings have a "JC/ " prefix so you can find them easily. You can ignore it and it is not necessary to include it in the translation.

    **NOTE:** If any Joinchat string is missing, reload a page URL where the Joinchat floating button appears and launch Translation Editor again.
